Racism is still alive in this country. A woman named Sandra Bland was killed while in police custody on July 10,2015. Bland was stopped by a state trooper for failing to signal while changing lanes. After she refused to put out her cigarette while still in her own car and not under arrest the officer immediately got aggressive with her. During the video you can witness the officer becoming physical with her. He slams her head into the ground while she was cuffed, although she told him she suffers from Epilepsy. During her stay at the police station she made phone calls to people when she found out her bail was set at $5,000. Three days later she was found dead in her cell and the autopsy reports ruled it as a suicide. Sandra Bland’s family doesn’t believe that she would commit suicide; especially since she was excited about starting a new job and beginning a new journey in her life. From her Facebook videos she seemed like a very intelligent woman, who spoke on social issues and was concerned about her people. For someone with such recent accomplishments and with a very strong perspective on the social issues that African-Americans are facing she doesn’t seem like a person that would kill herself. After video footage and a disturbing mugshot was released on social networks people are starting to believe that the police killed her. People are suspecting that she was already dead in her mugshot. During these times we as African Americans should support one another, be active whether it’s on the streets or social media and come together to show that black lives do matter and we want justice for what happen to Sandra Bland! TheMusicPlugNYC sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sandra Bland and we hope answers will surface soon for this case.
